Facebook Projected to Reach 1 Billion Users Later This Year

This August, Facebook is projected to have 1 Billion users. But just how much is 1 Billion? Well, consider that 1 Billion seconds ago, Ronald Reagan was just beginning his presidency. Or 1 Billion hours ago, our ancestors were still fighting woolly mammoths with flint spears.
At 1 Billion users, Facebook will have managed to connect close to 1/7th of the world’s population. Despite the growing popularity of other social networking sites, Facebook is still the king of the social media universe. Twitter has around 100 million active users, LinkedIn – 130 million, and Google+ only around 50 million. Combined, that’s roughly 30% of what Facebook will achieve this August.
And Facebook’s numbers won’t be falling anytime soon. While new signups have plateaued in both the U.S. and U.K., reports suggest that vast opportunities still exist in many other developing countries such as India and Brazil. With over 1 billion people residing in India alone, Facebook’s future is looking brighter than ever.
